Have you ever not been sure of what to do or how to get involved in social sports? It can be tough taking the first step to heading on down to a local sports team and joining in for that first and potentially frightful training session. The fear for many is simply too much. You could of course join a social team but so often you can only join as a complete team of 6+ players… How many people have that many friends in the city they live in who all like playing the same social sport?
Well now there is a new way of playing social sports which alleviates most (of course their is always the nervousness associated with unfamiliar people and environments) of the anxiety associated with playing sports for fun! It is a website called Sportivore and it has been designed specifically to facilitate casual, flexible games of social sports on a pay as you play basis. It encourages sports clubs, governing bodies and local councils to offer social sport in a more casual and flexible way.
So how does it work? Prospective players search the GAMES PAGE for games that are of interest to them. Soccer, Basketball and Volleyball are currently being offered on a weekly basis in Adelaide with plans to more sports and more cities in the future. Once a desirable option is found you simply ‘Join Game’. This will prompt the player to create an account. Often ‘Bonus’ sportivore credit is available for first timers and on occasion promotions are run to invite a friend or Join more games with FREE games also on offer at various times. Once the player has joined a game an email is sent to them. Naturally given the flexible nature of the sportivore website full games with enough players are not always achieved. As such no game is confirmed as on until 4 hours prior. At this point players receive either a confirmation or cancellation email. If the game is confirmed then there Sportivore wallets are debited the advertised game fee and they are financially obligated to attend. If the game is cancelled then no fee is paid and their credit remains in tact for the next game they wish to join. The best part about the Sportivore model is the flexibility it allows the players. If for some unforeseen reason the player is unable to attend they can withdraw without penalty up until the 4 hour window expires.
Sportivore is a great initiative that aims to bridge the gap for sports clubs and enable them to re engage more people in their sports and communities. The way we work has changed in the past 20 years with Fly In Fly Out (FIFO), Emergency Services, Shift Workers etc all limiting our availability to commit to conventional social sports time slots on a weekly basis. Sportivore smashes down those barriers and make social sport accessible to all.
